Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra (RLEK), a Dehradun based NGO, has been working for nearly 3 decades in Uttaranchal. RLEK has come a long way since its inception in the 1970s when a group of vibrant and enthusiastic youth started development work in the tribal area of Jaunsar-Bhabar. Today, RLEK has established its credibility as one of the pioneer NGOs of the country working at micro, meso as well as macro levels. RLEK was formally registered as a Non-Profit Organisation in 1989.

Started working with bonded labor in Jaunsar-Bhabar in late 1970s.
Worked against illegal poppy cultivation. A suite (CASE no. 2664) filed in 1986, led to the passing of the prevention of illicit traffic in Narcotic Drugs and psychotropic substance act in 1988.
RLEK has been involved with Van (forest) Gujjars in Garhwal region of Uttaranchal and Himachal Pradesh. They are deprived of benefits of any government programme. RLEK is working with them with a vision to empower the forest ? dwelling, Muslim nomadic tribe, Van Gujjars. RLEK started Adult education programme, assisted SHGs in organizing Milk Cooperative, helped them preserve their life style by training Van Gujjars in becoming para-vets and para-medicals.
